Bhubaneswar: Proceedings of the Odisha Assembly were adjourned till 4 pm on Wednesday after Opposition members from the Congress and BJD created a ruckus during the Question Hour, protesting over the amended MMDR Act and alleged errors in school textbooks.
As soon as the Question Hour began on the second day of the monsoon session, Congress and BJD members rushed to the Well of the House and raised slogans, demanding withdrawal of the amended Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act.
BJD legislators also raised the issue of alleged mistakes in school textbooks and sought the government’s response on the matter.
Amid noisy scenes, slogan-shouting and placard-waving by Opposition members, Deputy Speaker Bhabani Shankar Bhoi appealed to the protesting legislators to return to their seats and allow the House to function.
However, as the protests continued and normal proceedings could not be conducted, Bhoi adjourned the House till 4 pm.
The Opposition members continued their protest over the issues raised by them, disrupting the proceedings during the Question Hour.
