Deogarh: Three youths lost their lives and three others sustained injuries after being struck by lightning near Bhatsingha under Kaunsibahal Gram Panchayat in Deogarh district on Monday.
The deceased have been identified as Bubun Samal of Katasahi GP, Basalai, and Dolamani Penthei of Pitasahi GP, Basalai. The identity of the third deceased is yet to be ascertained.
The injured were immediately shifted to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.
According to reports, the incident occurred while the group was returning on a motorcycle after visiting a Shiva temple in Banakalo village under the Reamal police station area, near the Rengali Dam. They were caught in sudden adverse weather conditions when lightning struck them.
On being alerted by locals, police reached the spot and recovered the bodies. The deceased have been sent for post-mortem examination.
Further investigation is underway.
