Baripada: Alleging severe mismanagement at their residential school, around 500 students of Eklavya Model Residential School (EMRS) at Shyamsundarpur in Mayurbhanj district took to the streets on Saturday.
The students walked about 10 kilometres from Shyamsundarpur to Bangiriposi block office carrying placards in their hands, to protest against various problems and irregularities in the school.
According to the students, despite repeatedly informing the school authorities about the issues, no action was taken. This triggered resentment among them.
The students said they will march a total of 50 kilometres to place their demands before the Block administration and the District Collector, seeking a permanent solution to their problems. The sight of students undertaking such a foot march on the main road created a sensation in the area.
Meanwhile, the administration has swung into action following the incident.
