Bhubaneswar: Burla Police on Saturday detained seven youths and seized two vehicles for reckless driving on the right dyke of Hirakud Dam in Sambalpur district. The action followed the circulation of viral videos on social media.
The videos showed the accused driving dangerously while filming “movie-style” clips. Some were sitting on the roofs of moving cars, others were smoking cigarettes, and several made gestures while the vehicles swerved unpredictably, causing disruption to traffic and putting commuters at risk.
Acting promptly after the videos went viral, Burla police registered a case under PS Case No. 56/2026 U/S 281/285/3(5) BNS r/w Sections 184/201 of the Motor Vehicles Act. The vehicles involved have been seized, and the detained persons are in police custody. Search operations are underway to apprehend others involved in the incident.
Police officials warned citizens against rash and negligent driving and urged road users to report such dangerous behavior immediately to prevent accidents and ensure public safety.
