Bhubaneswar: Incessant rainfall in many parts of the state has triggered a flood-like situation with water levels in rivers steadily rising. The Baitarani river is flowing above the danger mark. Amid this, a 70-feet breach has developed in the Kani river, leaving many villages in Jajpur block and Dasarathpur block waterlogged.
According to reports, the breach occurred at Patana in the Kani river, where repair work was carried out just a few days ago. Due to continuous rainfall, the 70-ft breach has reappeared, allowing floodwater to enter villages.
On one side there is rain and on the other side flood, which has doubled the miseries of the people. More than 10 villages under Kaspa, Tarapada and Mallikapur panchayats are now marooned.
As a flood situation has been created in the block, the BDO has visited the breach site. The BDO said that dry and cooked food will be provided to the flood-affected people and fire services and ODRAF teams will be deployed to rescue people trapped in water wherever required.
