Bhubaneswar: The 70th State Police Duty Meet, held over the past three days, concluded today at the Reserve Police Ground in Cuttack. The event witnessed the participation of Prithiviraj Harichandan, Minister of Law, Works, and Excise, who graced the occasion as the chief guest.
Minister Harichandan inaugurated the meet with a vibrant parade and honored the top performers for their exemplary skills and dedication. Speaking at the event, Minister emphasised the critical role played by the police department in achieving the vision of a developed and prosperous state.
He noted that the meet was organised to motivate police personnel, who form the backbone of the department, and expressed optimism that scientific methods adopted during investigations would bring greater success in solving criminal cases.
Highlighting the government’s commitment to modernising the police force, the Minister announced the appointment of additional Public Prosecutors across all districts to ensure speedy justice. He also reiterated the government’s unwavering focus on safeguarding women, children, and vulnerable sections of society. Efforts are underway to establish Fast Track Courts in collaboration with the High Court to expedite cases related to crimes against women.
Minister Harichandan expressed hope that the state police would become more people-friendly and efficient in delivering justice. He urged police officers and staff to uphold professionalism and dedication in maintaining law and order.
The Minister also praised the police for their notable efforts in combating narcotics trafficking and other law enforcement challenges. He extended his best wishes to the Odisha police contingent participating in the upcoming All India Police Service Competition in Maharashtra.
State Director General of Police (DGP) Yogesh Bahadur Khurania stressed the importance of continuous skill development and a progressive mindset among police personnel. He encouraged officers to engage in competitions that foster professional growth and enhance public trust. The DGP also detailed the Crime Branch’s ongoing initiatives, including training camps and workshops aimed at sharpening investigative capabilities. New training modules are being developed to further strengthen police skills across the state.
The DGP commended the police force for their effective control of ganja smuggling, crime regulation, and handling of POCSO cases.
Director General of Police (Crime Branch) Vinaytosh Mishra expressed his gratitude to all participants and organisers. The event concluded with the presentation of trophies and awards to the outstanding competitors.
The three-day event was attended by several senior police officials and retired officers, celebrating the dedication and professionalism of the state police force.
