Angul: An 8-year-old boy died on Tuesday after he slipped and fell into the 60-ft-deep siphon of a canal in Athamallik block of Angul district.
Despite all efforts by ODRAF personnel to rescue the child, he has been fished out dead.
According to reports, the deceased child was a student of Athmallik Saraswati Sishu Mandir. He had allegedly gone to watch the high water level of the canal when he slipped and fell into the canal.
Swept away by the current in the canal, the child got stuck in the 60-ft-deep siphon for over an hour.
