Sambalpur: Sambalpur Police have deployed 80 platoons of security personnel as part of extensive arrangements to ensure the peaceful and smooth conduct of the Sital Sasthi festival in the city.
Addressing mediapersons on Wednesday, Superintendent of Police Mukesh Kumar Bhamoo said that a multi-layered security plan has been put in place, which also includes the deployment of seven Additional SPs, 21 Deputy Superintendents of Police, 46 Inspectors, and 106 Sub-Inspectors/Assistant Sub-Inspectors.
He said the festival, which began on June 14, will witness its peak celebrations between June 18 and June 20, when large crowds are expected to gather for major rituals and processions.
In view of the anticipated rush, police have coordinated with local “pada” committees to streamline arrangements and ensure smooth crowd movement. Special traffic plans have been prepared, with key routes identified for incoming devotees and designated parking areas earmarked to avoid congestion.
The SP said drinking water facilities have also been arranged at important locations to facilitate visitors during the festival days.
Former officials familiar with the event and local arrangements have also been engaged to assist in the smooth conduct of the festivities. In addition, CCTV surveillance has been strengthened across key areas of the city to monitor crowd movement and ensure security.
A total of 33 marriage processions will be organised across the district during the festival, including 28 within the Sambalpur Municipal Corporation limits. The celebrations will feature six grand baraat processions and 12 homecoming processions in Sambalpur town.
