Bhubaneswar: A youth was killed after being trampled by a wild elephant in the Badabahala Range under Rairakhol Forest Division in Sambalpur district on Tuesday night.
The deceased has been identified as Narendra Pradhan of Tapursinga village.
According to reports, Narendra was returning home from Sana Nuapada village on Tuesday night. He came face to face with a tusker and was attacked. The elephant trampled him to death.
On receiving information, forest department officials and police rushed to the spot and initiated an investigation.
The incident has triggered panic in the surrounding villages, with locals fearing to venture out of their homes after dark. People have demanded immediate action from the forest department to drive the elephant back deep into the forest to prevent further tragedies.
