Cuttack: In a major crackdown on illegal drug trafficking, a joint team of the Directorate Of Drugs Control and the Special Task Force (STF) seized a huge consignment of banned cough syrup during a raid in Cuttack district.
Acting on specific inputs, officials intercepted a vehicle belonging to VRL Logistics at Phulnakhara under Cuttack Sadar Police Station limits. During the search, the team recovered 71 cartons containing as many as 8,520 bottles of Recron-T cough syrup, a codeine-based formulation often misused for recreational purposes.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the consignment was being transported from Ahmedabad to Bhubaneswar. Sources indicated that a significant portion of the seized stock was intended for further distribution to different parts of Odisha, particularly Balasore district.
Authorities suspect the involvement of an interstate network engaged in the illegal trade of pharmaceutical drugs. Further investigation is underway to trace the supply chain and identify those behind the racket.
The raid was carried out in the presence of Additional Tahsildar Sharmishtha Das, STF DSP Pradeep Raut, DSP Manas Das, Inspector Jitu Besra, Drug Inspectors Chandan Giri, Chinmay Jena, Ananya Aich, Rozalin Samal, Sangeeta Pattnaik, and Assistant Drug Controller Prabesh Lenka.
