Berhampur: Nine individuals have been arrested in connection with the kidnapping of a youth who allegedly defrauded around Rs 4 crore from nearly 150 investors in Khaja Sahi under Town Police Station, on Thursday.

The individuals arrested for their involvement in the kidnapping are Sheikh Altaf (32), a resident of Harsha Vihar, Khaja Sahi; Mohammad Sattar alias Imran (39), from Golia Sahi; and Syed Noor Muhammad (30), also from Golia Sahi. The opposing group of individuals involved in a scuffle over the matter includes Mansoor Bagh (41), a resident of Khaja Sahi, and Syed Ehsan and Sheikh Azim (33).

The youth at the center of the incident, Sheikh Suleiman Ali, is a resident of Patra Peta Sahi under the Town Police Station area of Berhampur.

According to reports, Sheikh Suleiman Ali had lured locals in the Khaja Sahi area to invest in an online trading scheme, promising high returns.

Around 150 individuals collectively invested an estimated Rs 4 crore in the venture. However, when the promised returns failed to materialize, a group of youths allegedly kidnapped Ali, first on a bike and then in a car.

On receiving a tip-off, the Town Police Station swiftly launched a rescue operation, successfully freeing Ali from Digapahandi. Initially, three individuals were arrested in connection with the kidnapping.

The situation took a violent turn when a scuffle broke out between the two groups over the return of the invested money. In the aftermath, six more individuals were arrested.

The investigation is ongoing, as police work to resolve the case and recover the stolen funds.
