Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government announced plans to set up nine new medical colleges across the state, said Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. Mukesh Mahaling on Tuesday.
Out of the nine institutions, four will be dental medical colleges and one an Ayurvedic institute.
“We have decided to establish four MBBS colleges in Jagatsinghpur, Bhadrak, Dhenkanal, and Nabarangpur districts; four dental colleges in Burla, Berhampur, Bolangir, and Keonjhar; and an Ayurvedic college in Mayurbhanj district,” said Health and Family Welfare Minister Mukesh Mahaling to reporters.
He added that two new medical colleges with 100 MBBS seats each in Phulbani (Kandhamal district) and Talcher (Angul district) will commence operations from the current academic year.
Expressing gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi for approving the projects, Mahaling said the new colleges will help meet the growing demand for doctors in Odisha.
