Mayurbhanj: Ninety-two girl students fell ill after allegedly consuming contaminated food at the Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya hostel at Saragada under Bijatala block of Bamanghati sub-division in Mayurbhanj district.

Following the incident, the headmistress of the school Hiramani Hembram has been suspended and an investigation has been launched, according to reports.

According to information, the students of Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya suffered from vomiting and diarrhoea after eating stale food. While some of the affected students were taken to Rairangpur Sub-Divisional Hospital for treatment, a medical team reached the school premises and treated the rest of the students there.

Taking the matter seriously after it was reported in various media outlets, the School and Mass Education Department initiated action.

Based on letters from District Education Officer Purnachandra Sethy and Bijatala Block Education Officer Dilip Kumar Nanda, headmistress Hiramani Hembram was placed under suspension.

She has been directed to report at Patapur Upper Primary Vidyalaya under the same block during the suspension period.

Meanwhile, Dulimani Soren of the same school has been given charge as the in-charge headmistress of the school.
