Bhubaneswar: A total of 96 snakebite cases were reported in the flood-affected areas of Odisha, but no deaths occurred due to snakebite, informed Joint Director of Public Health Dr Basanta Pradhan.

Pradhan stated that even as floodwaters have receded, health challenges continue in seven districts such as Baleshwar, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Jagatsinghpur, Keonjhar, Puri and Cuttack. The Health Department has made extensive preparations to deal with the situation. Control rooms and temporary treatment camps have been opened in all these districts. In coordination with the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC), adequate stocks of ORS, Anti-Snake Venom (ASV) and other essential medicines have been maintained.

Pradhan further stated that apart from snakebites, 195 diarrhoea cases were also reported, and patients are being treated with special focus on preventing dehydration. So far, medical services have been provided to 21,334 people. As many as 481 pregnant women were shifted to safer locations. Of these, 332 successful deliveries have taken place, with no deaths of either mother or newborn reported by the Health Department.
