Bhubaneswar: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) will strengthen its organisational base in Odisha and focus on the upcoming panchayat elections, party MP Sanjay Singh said on Sunday.

Addressing party workers and the media in Bhubaneswar, Singh said the party has initiated groundwork to expand its presence across the state, including the formation of district, block, and booth-level committees. He added that the objective is to build a stronger grassroots network ahead of the rural polls expected in February or March next year.

Singh said AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal will soon visit Odisha to interact with party workers and boost organisational efforts in the state. He said the party is committed to becoming a “credible alternative” in Odisha politics by focusing on local issues and strengthening its cadre base.

The AAP MP said the party’s expansion plan will prioritise booth-level mobilisation and direct engagement with voters at the grassroots level. He added that preparations for the panchayat elections have already begun in earnest.

Singh also used the occasion to criticise the ruling BJP government in Odisha, alleging that several pre-election promises remain unfulfilled. He claimed that the promise of 300 units of free electricity has not been delivered even after two years in power.

He further alleged that Odisha, once known for peace and stability, is now witnessing rising incidents of violence, including mob lynching and rioting. Singh also claimed that despite the state’s rich mineral resources, unemployment continues to force youths to migrate to other states in search of livelihood.

He described the current governance model as ineffective, stating that the “double-engine government” in Odisha has turned into a “kabad (scrap) engine.”
