Bhubaneswar: In yet another disturbing case amid a spate of violence against women in Odisha, a woman staff member at AIIMS Bhubaneswar has accused a male nursing officer of sexual harassment. The incident has triggered protests by hospital employees and drawn the attention of local law enforcement.
According to a written complaint filed at the Khandagiri Police Station, the female hospital attendant alleged that Nursing Officer Nanu Ram Choudhary called her into a doctor’s room late on Sunday night, locked the door, and physically harassed her. She claimed that he behaved inappropriately and made unwanted physical advances.
The complainant said she immediately alerted the hospital’s control room, which advised her to formally approach the police. Following her complaint, police personnel, including the Inspector-in-Charge of Khandagiri Police Station, reached AIIMS Bhubaneswar to investigate the matter and address rising tensions on campus.
Soon after news of the incident broke, a group of hospital attendants launched a protest on the hospital premises, demanding the immediate suspension and arrest of the accused nursing officer. They also called for stronger safeguards and a safer working environment for women employees.
Police have initiated a preliminary inquiry into the AIIMS Bhubaneswar case and assured protestors that appropriate legal action will be taken based on the findings.
