Bhubaneswar: The state government has given top priority to animal safety in flood-hit areas, with the Department of Fisheries and Animal Resources Development deploying rapid response teams and treatment camps across affected districts.

Fisheries and Animal Resources Development Minister Gokulanand Mallik said the department has issued a control room number 7205598125 for assistance. Animal owners can contact the number between 8 am and 8 pm for help related to safety of domestic animals, supply of fodder and medical aid during the flood.

According to the department, 1341 villages in 331 gram panchayats under 45 blocks of nine districts have been affected by the current flood. A total of 4,88,868 people have been impacted. To provide emergency services, 58 rapid response teams have been deployed in the affected areas. 245 animal treatment camps have also been organized, where 15,179 animals have been treated so far.

The department said 6,46,825 vaccines were administered before the flood and 11,800 vaccines have been given after the flood. Livestock losses reported so far include 5 big animals, 120 small animals and 80,900 poultry birds.

For fodder supply, 800 metric tons of cattle feed has been provided to the flood-affected districts. In addition, 73.2 quintals of green grass and 13.9 quintals of dry grass and straw have been distributed.

Minister Mallik stressed that ensuring the safety of livestock remains a key focus of the government’s flood relief operations.
