Angul: In yet another incident of man-animal conflict in Odisha, an elephant’s carcass was found in the Dhandatopa forest Range under the Athamallik Forest Division in Angul district. Villagers spotted the carcass near the Sankhamal village under the Madhapur Forest Range on Sunday.
Though the forest officials are yet to ascertain the reason behind the elephant’s death, locals suspect that it might have been killed in the trap set to poach boars.
According to reports, the locals of the Sankhamal village reported the forest official after they spotted an elder elephant carcass in the village forest.
Acting on it, the range officials visited the spot, recovered the carcass and initiated an investigation into it.
Worth mentioning, an elephant was reportedly killed in the Dhanatopa forest almost four days ago due to electrocution. However, neither the Athmallik DFO nor the Range officer has yet revealed anything about what led to the pachyderm’s death.
