Bhubaneswar: Another Nepalese student was found dead in her hostel room at the Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) in Bhubaneswar.
The body was discovered in room number 111 of campus number 4, with the incident suspected to be a case of suicide. However, the reason behind the death has not been confirmed yet.
The deceased, identified as Prisha Shah, is a resident of Biragunj in Nepal. She was pursuing B.Tech course in the institution.
The police team, led by the Commissioner, DCP, and other top officials, have launched an investigation into the matter.
“When attendance was taken at 7 PM, student Prisha Shah, who was staying alone in her room, did not respond from inside. When the hostel authorities examined, she was found hanging. On being informed, we have reached the spot with a scientific team and started the investigation. Her room is being searched,” Commissioner S. Dev Datta Singh told reporters.
Fellow students are being questioned and they are fully cooperating with the police, he added.
“We have informed her parents through the embassy. They will reach tomorrow and the post-mortem will be conducted in their presence at AIIMS-Bhubaneswar”, the Commissioner informed.
This incident follows a similar case last February, where a Nepalese student died by suicide in KIIT, sparking widespread outrage and protests from fellow students.
The recent incident has put the KIIT authorities under scrutiny once again.
Investigation is underway. Police seized the body for post-mortem.
