Kalahandi: In a shocking midnight heist, a gang of armed robbers broke into the house of a businessman in Lanjigarh area of Kalahandi district on Monday night and made off with Rs 8 lakh in cash and a significant quantity of gold ornaments.
The incident occurred around 2 am near the Vedanta township gate, where Anand Agarwal, who operates a kiosk banking service, resides with his family.
According to preliminary reports, six to eight masked men, armed with firearms and knives, forced their way into the house and held the family members at gunpoint during the robbery. The miscreants escaped with approximately Rs 8 lakh in cash and around 15 tolas of gold jewellery, leaving the family traumatised.
The victims raised an alarm after the robbers fled, and police reached the spot early Tuesday morning to launch an investigation.
On the other hand, Agarwal said he had no enmity with anyone and expressed surprise over the incident, stating that such daring robberies were previously unheard of in this locality.
Police investigation is underway to gather leads to identify and nab the culprits.
