Bhubaneswar: The Crime Branch registered a criminal case against five policemen, including the Inspector-In-Charge (IIC) of Bharatpur police station, for allegedly harassing and misbehaving with an Indian Army officer of Sikh Regiment Major Gurvansh Singh and his fiancée.
Based on a written complaint filed by the Major, the Crime Branch registered a criminal case against the accused cops of Bharatpur police station.
Earlier, DGP YB Khurania ordered a Crime Branch probe on Tuesday, and hours later, three police personnel, including Inspector-in-Charge Dinakrushna Mishra, were removed from their posts to facilitate a fair investigation.
DGP Khurania on Wednesday suspended five police personnel from the Bharatpur police station, including IIC Mishra, SI Baisalini Panda, ASIs Salilamayee Sahoo and Sagarika Rath, and constable Balaram Hansda.
Notably, the incident occurred on September 14 night when Major and his fiancée were travelling by car from Patia. They were allegedly stopped and harassed by hooligans who came in two cars. When the Major and his fiancée went to Bharatpur police station to file a complaint about the road rage incident, they were allegedly assaulted and humiliated at Bharatpur police station.
