Bhubaneswar: Palpable tension prevailed at Tanupur village under Pattamundai block in Kendrapara when hundreds of devotees gathered to attend a special ‘Satsang’ program in honour of controversial godman Baba Sarathi. The event was met with strong opposition from local villagers, who had long been against the worship of Sarathi Baba who was earlier arrested for indulgence in criminal activities and cheating people by misusing religious and spiritual practices.
As the worship ceremony began, villagers protested by pelting eggs and tomatoes at the devotees. Despite the hostile reception, the Sarathi Baba followers continued their bhajan recitation. As the situation escalated, local police had to intervene to prevent any untoward situation.
Police were forced to remove the Sarathi devotees from the scene to maintain law and order. A significant police presence was deployed to ensure the situation did not worsen.
The worship of Sarathi Baba had been banned in the village for an extended period. Some of the villagers who are strong disciple of Baba Sarathi arranged the ‘satsang’ after a long gap, inviting devotees from outside.
