Bhubaneswar: Bharat Sahu, the officer-in-charge of Salebhata outpost under Loisingha police station in Balangir district, has been suspended. Balangir Superintendent of Police suspended him on Friday.
The action followed allegations that he had made seized liquor disappear from the police station and had links with the sand mafia and cattle-smuggling mafia. An inquiry found negligence in duty, leading to the suspension.
According to sources, nearly 100 bottles of liquor were seized from Montu Dhaba near Salebhata. However, official records showed only 10 bottles. A complaint in this regard was made to senior officers.
Acting on the complaint, the Balangir SP then directed the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) and Loisingha Inspector-in-Charge to probe the matter. After the investigation confirmed the facts, the District SP suspended the Salebhata outpost officer and ordered him to remain present every day at the Kantabanji SDPO office.
