Bhubaneswar: Nearly 40,000 people have been evacuated to safer places in Balasore district, informed Collector Dattatraya Bhausaheb Shinde.
Shinde stated that as of now people in 156 villages under 83 panchayats in six blocks of the district have been affected by the flood.
He said that if the situation so demands people residing in pucca houses will be also evacuated to safer places.
Arrangements have been put in place at 227 shelters for the stay of evacuees, he added.
