Bhubaneswar: The much-awaited Dhanu Jatra, the world’s largest open-air theatre, will be organised in Bargarh from January 12 to 22. District Collector formally announced the dates after a preparatory meeting for the 79th edition of the festival.
During the 11-day mega cultural event, the demon King Kansa will symbolically reign over the town, recreating the mythological story of Lord Krishna and his tyrannical maternal uncle. Streets, markets and public spaces of Bargarh will transform into the ancient city of Mathura, with thousands of artistes and local residents participating in the dramatic performances.
The preparatory meeting reviewed arrangements for security, crowd management, cultural programmes and infrastructure. Officials emphasised the need for smooth coordination among various departments to ensure a successful and safe celebration of the unique festival that attracts visitors from across the country and abroad.
The announcement has generated excitement among locals and theatre enthusiasts ahead of the grand event.
