Bargarh: Bargarh police have solved a blind murder case within a short span of time after an unidentified woman’s body was found near a canal bridge under Barpali police limits, leading to the arrest of a 56-year-old man allegedly involved in the crime.
According to a press note issued by the police, the body of an unidentified woman aged around 55 years was discovered on the steps of the main canal bridge on the morning of June 21. Following a written complaint lodged by Raghab Naik, husband of the Sarpanch of Satalma Gram Panchayat, Barpali police registered a case and launched an investigation.
Taking the matter seriously, Bargarh Superintendent of Police constituted three special teams led by the SDPO, Bargarh, the Inspector-in-Charge (IIC) of Barpali police station and the IIC of Town police station, along with personnel from the district cyber cell.
During the investigation, police used social media inputs, cyber analysis and local intelligence to identify the deceased as Mamata Hota (57), wife of Fakir Mohan Hota of Sahajbahal village under Deogaon police station in Bolangir district.
Further investigation and cyber tracking led police to the accused, identified as Ramakanta Pujari (56) of Beheramal village under Dunguripali police station in Subarnapur district. He was subsequently apprehended.
Police said the motive behind the murder was previous enmity arising out of a monetary transaction between the accused and the deceased.
Investigators also recovered the weapon allegedly used in the crime—a tangia (axe)—along with a TVS XL Super moped bearing registration number OR-17-D-6110, which was allegedly used to transport the victim. The deceased’s mobile phone and wearing apparels were also seized from the place where they had been concealed.
Further investigation into the case is underway.
