Baripada (Mayurbhanj): A Sub-Inspector posted at Baripada Town Police Station was arrested on Saturday following a complaint by a woman from Puri, who alleged that he had established a physical relationship with her on the pretext of marriage and later threatened her.
The accused, identified as Sub-Inspector Pravat Kumar Nayak, was posted at Baripada Town Police Station.
According to the woman’s complaint, she came in contact with Nayak through Facebook. She alleged that he subsequently promised to marry her and maintained a physical relationship with her for a prolonged period.
The woman further alleged that when she insisted that Nayak marry her, he allegedly subjected her to mental and physical harassment. She also accused him of taking money from her and threatening to kill her while displaying his service pistol.
Following the complaint, Baripada Town Police registered a case and initiated an investigation. The woman has sought strict action against the accused police officer.
SDPO, Sadar Baripada, Pravat Kumar Mallick said a woman from Puri had lodged a complaint against the SI, alleging that he had promised to marry her and subsequently threatened her when she insisted on marriage.
“A case has been registered at Baripada Town Police Station in connection with the complaint and the matter is under investigation,” Mallick said.
The case was registered under Baripada Town Police Station Case No. 542 dated August 22, 2026.
Further investigation is underway.
