Nuapada: A bear died after falling into an open well at Mahuabhatta under Sadar block in Nuapada district on Thursday.
The forest department recovered the carcass of the animal from the well of Rupachand Rana in the village in the presence DFO Sunil Kumar Tripathy. It is suspected that the bear might fall accidentally into the well in the residential area on Wednesday night.
The animal is suspected to have died after remaining in water for hours amid intense cold wave in the locality.
The body has been sent for post-mortem, forest officials said.
Notably, a woman sustained critical injuries in Sadar area after being attacked by a wild bear recently. The woman identified as Mukhi Maharathi is undergoing treatment at the district headquarters hospital. She faced the attack while plucking flowers in the wee hours.
