Bhubaneswar: The administrations of Bhadrak, Jajpur and Sundaragada districts have announced the closure of educational institutions in several areas on August 19 amid continuous rainfall, flooding and waterlogging, officials said.
In Sundaragada, the District Education Office has ordered the closure of all types of educational institutions on Wednesday in view of continuous rainfall and adverse weather conditions. The order covers elementary, secondary and higher secondary institutions, including government, government-aided and private schools.
The closure also applies to Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs), Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs), Odisha Adarsha Vidyalayas (OAVs) and Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRS) in the district.
The administration said the decision was taken as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of students amid the prevailing weather conditions.
In Jajpur, authorities have ordered the closure of schools in Bari, Binjharpur, Dasarathpur and Jajpur blocks on August 19 in view of heavy rainfall, flooding and waterlogging in several areas.
In other blocks, the closure will be restricted to identified flood-affected schools. Schools affected by the flood situation in Dharmasala, Badachana, Korei, Rasulpur and other specified areas will remain closed, while unaffected institutions will continue to function normally.
The administration has also indicated that schools closed due to the flood situation may be used for rescue and rehabilitation operations, if required.
Meanwhile, in Bhadrak, the office of the Collector and District Magistrate has directed that listed Anganwadi Centres (AWCs) under different Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) projects remain closed on August 19.
The decision was taken in view of the prevailing flood situation and to ensure the safety and security of children. The concerned Child Development Project Officers (CDPOs) have been directed to ensure strict compliance with the order and communicate the decision to all concerned.
With rainfall continuing in several parts of Odisha, district administrations are closely monitoring the situation and taking precautionary measures to minimise risks to students and children.
