Bhadrak: Six dacoits allegedly involved in a series of six house dacoity cases in Odisha’s Bhadrak district have been arrested from Jharkhand, police said on Wednesday.

The accused were brought to Odisha and produced before a court on Wednesday, Bhadrak Superintendent of Police Manoj Rout said while briefing the media.

According to police, the gang was involved in dacoity incidents reported at Sabaranga, Talanga, Charampa, Ganijanga, Dhamnagar Chhak and Ranital areas of the district since May this year. The gang allegedly targeted houses and looted valuables after threatening victims with firearms.

Police have recovered Rs 2.17 lakh in cash, 73 grams of gold, 660 grams of silver, a pistol, unspent ammunition, a car and seven mobile phones from the accused, the SP said.

The gang was allegedly led by Aditya Rana of Brahmani village in Bhadrak. A case was registered at Bhadrak Rural police station as Case No. 578 dated August 5, following which two special police teams were formed to trace the accused.

Rana was arrested first and produced before a court on August 7. During interrogation, police allegedly obtained information about other members of the gang and subsequently travelled to Jharkhand, where raids led to the arrest of six more accused.

The arrested accused have been identified as Bharat Sao alias Mukesh Rajak, 26, of Chhatatand under Barwada police station in Dhanbad; Mohammad Karim Ansari alias Driver, 40, of Masjid Tola, Shibpur, under Gobindpur police station; Lalbahadur Sao, 28, of Chhatatand; Om Prakash Das, 29, of Sonaria; Devilal Das, 25, of Sonaria; and Kalachand Sao, 27, of Madhugola, all in Dhanbad district, according to police.

The previously arrested Aditya Rana, 30, son of Ramchandra Rana and a resident of Rana Sahi in Srimahan village under Basudevpur police station in Bhadrak, has already been produced in court and is in judicial custody.

The SP said the investigation is continuing to ascertain whether more persons were involved in the six dacoity cases and to establish the full network of the gang.
