Bhubaneswar: A special team from the Commissionerate Police will soon travel to Kolkata to deepen the investigation into a recently busted fake call center in the Sundarpada area of Bhubaneswar.
According to Bhubaneswar DCP Pinak Mishra, the police are working to uncover the full extent of the scam, including identifying the victims and the amount of money swindled. Their electronic devices have been sent to experts for detailed forensic analysis, Mishra added.
Sources in the Commissionerate Police said that a special team will soon head for Kolkata to gather more information about the accused persons, their backgrounds and operational methods. To further interrogate the arrested individuals a five-day remand has been sought, the sources added.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the accused were engaged in widespread cyber fraud, both domestically and internationally, including duping American citizens by falsely offering software products and antivirus services. The scam reportedly netted them over Rs 2 crore.
Authorities are currently scrutinizing the suspects’ bank accounts to determine the total amount defrauded.
The suspects, all hailing from West Bengal, are described as highly educated individuals running the fake call center from a flat in Kanchan Apartment, Sundarpada.
