Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police has arrested seven members of the notorious ‘fake police cheating and snatching’ gang who impersonated policemen to rob people of their money, jewellery and other belongings.
The police have also seized cash to the tune of Rs 3.5 lakh, gold ornaments, gemstones, a car, two motorcycles, six mobile phones and various incriminating documents from their possession.
The arrested accused have been identified as Sadekh Hussain (56), Sabir Ali (33), Fayaz Hussain (36) and Hasan Ali (20) – all residents of Morwa in Madhya Pradesh’s Singrouli district – Abuzar Ali (23), a resident of Peparia in Madhya Pradesh’s Osangabad district, Zahir Ali (34), a resident of Madhya Pradesh’s Hosangabad district, and Rajendra Kumar Kushabaha (32), a resident of Nigahi in Madhya Pradesh’s Singrauli district.
While Sadekh Hussain is the leader of the gang Rajendra Kumar Kushabaha is the car driver of the gang.
According to an official release issued by the police, for the last three months some cases of “fake police cheating and snatching” have been reported in many police stations of Bhubaneswar UPD wherein a well-organised Hindi-speaking interstate criminals were involved.
Members of the gang identified themselves as police and were targeting elderly ladies and men, especially single persons, who were out of houses for evening or morning walks. Following an investigation into these cases and observing their modus operandi, Bhubaneswar UPD successfully nabbed the entire gang and recovered the robbed cash and gold ornaments.
