Bhubaneswar Residents Hit Hard By LPG Crisis; Black Market Booms As Supplies Dwindle

Bhubaneswar: The capital city is grappling with a severe LPG shortage, leaving consumers frustrated and scrambling for cooking gas.

Despite booking cylinders 20-25 days ago, many have yet to receive their refills, forcing some to resort to traditional wood-fired stoves or buy from black marketeers at inflated prices, said sources.

At the Khandagiri Lingaraj HP Gas Station, long queues of anxious customers were seen today, with some waiting since night. The situation is dire, with home delivery services reportedly stopped and consumers forced to collect cylinders from distributors or godowns

Meanwhile, home delivery services have stopped, forcing some to use wood-fired stoves or buy from black marketeers at Rs 110 per liter. Others are told to collect cylinders from godowns or wait in long queues since night. The situation is dire, with customers complaining of inconvenience and lack of transparency from distributors.

The crisis is attributed to a shortfall in supply from HPCL’s bottling plants, with officials citing issues like non-availability of stock and transportation problems. The Odisha government has directed oil marketing companies to ensure smooth LPG supply and address consumer grievances.
