Bhubaneswar: A brutal murder was reported from the capital Bhubaneswar where a man allegedly killed his wife by hitting her with a frying pan at Nayapalli Gada Sahi. The incident took place on Wednesday evening.
The deceased has been identified as Banasmita Sai (26). Police have detained her husband, Sarbeswar Pradhan (28), and seized the pan used in the crime. Zone-5 ACP Biswaranjan Senapati and Nayapalli police reached the spot after getting information.
According to information given by Sarbeswar’s father, Sasikant Pradhan, their native village is Belapala village under Rajnagar police limits in Kendrapada district, but they have been living in Nayapalli Gada Sahi for a long time. Sasikant works as a contractor and his elder son Sarbeswar also works as a contractor.
As per Sasikant, on Wednesday at around 7 pm, Sarbeswar asked Banismita for water. After she brought water, he suddenly got angry and hit her face multiple times with a tawa. Hearing Banismita’s screams, neighbours opened the gate and rushed to the first floor where they were living, only to find her dead. The neighbours detained Sarbeswar and informed the police. Sasikant reached the spot later.
On receiving information, Nayapalli police along with a forensic team reached the spot and collected samples. Banasmita had married Sarbeswar after being in love for about one and a half years ago. The couple also has a four-month-old son.
ACP Biswaranjan Senapati said, “Police reached the spot after getting information. Banasmita died after Sarbeswar attacked her head with a pan. They had a love marriage one and a half years ago. His father says Sarbeswar is mentally ill. Investigation is underway. Sarbeswar has been detained and is being questioned. The exact reason will be known after further investigation.”
Police said they are investigating the matter from all angles.
