Bhubaneswar: BJD corporator Amaresh Jena has been arrested from Nilagiri area of Balasore on charges of raping a young woman in Bhubaneswar.
A team from Laxmisagar police station arrested him after conducting raids at multiple locations throughout the night.
Jena is being shifted to Bhubaneswar from Balasore. He will be produced in court today.
Five associates of the BJD corporator were arrested on Saturday night.
Jena was booked for sexual exploitation and criminal intimidation, lodged by the woman at the Laxmisagar police station in the capital city.
According to the complaint, Jena allegedly established a physical relationship with the woman under the false promise of marriage. The complainant further alleged that when she confronted him about the commitment, she was met with cheating, threats, and intimidation.
Acting on the complaint, police had registered a case under relevant sections of the BNC.
