Bhubaneswar: Expressing shock at the fall in the ranking of Odisha in the Performance Grading Index (PGI) report of schools by the Union Ministry of Education Biju Janata Dal (BJD) Rajya Sabha Member Sasmit Patra called it a deliberate attempt by the Ministry to show Odisha’s education in poor light and defame the people of the State.
“…it is shocking to see the fall in the ranking of Odisha in the Performance Grading Index (PGI) report of schools by the Ministry of Education. It is obvious that this is a deliberate attempt by the Union Education Ministry to show Odisha education in poor light and to defame the people of Odisha,” stated Patra in a press statement today.
No wonder that the ranks of Utkal University, Sambalpur University, and Berhampur University are also being reduced in rankings, Patra said.
The Rajya Sabha Member termed it as sad and unfortunate that the Union Education Ministry is indulging in such kind of politics at the cost of the education system of Odisha.
“We don’t recognize the rating given by the Ministry of Education as it is more to do with politics than merit,” he stated.
Patra pointed out that Odisha is getting awarded by the Union Government for excellent performance in various sectors such as rural housing, MNREGA, Skill Development, Sports Promotion, Disaster Management and many others.
He said that about 8000 High Schools are being transformed in Odisha which is providing high-quality education to lakhs of students of Odisha.
Odisha has launched Mo School Abhiyan which is unique in the country and is being appreciated by people across State, he added.
