Bhubaneswar: The Biju Janata Dal (BJD), which boycotted the Assembly orientation programme starting today, will organise a similar training session for its MLAs on August 25.
The programme will be held at the party headquarters at Sankha Bhavan in Bhubaneswar. Veteran and experienced leaders will train the newly elected MLAs, senior leader and Opposition deputy chief whip Pratap Keshari Deb said at a press meet.
Deb said that the training camp for BJD MLAs will be held at Shankha Bhavan on Sunday. Apart from the inauguration and valedictory sessions, the event will have a total of eight sessions on various topics, Deb added. Senior and experienced MLAs will train the new members on the functioning of the Assembly.
The party boycotted the orientation program organized for the MLAs in the Odisha Legislative Assembly. Deb said that the BJD never opposes any special person or leader. The leader of the House is the Chief Minister and the head of the Assembly is the Speaker. So these two persons should be present at the inauguration and valedictory program respectively. The tradition of the House should not be changed, Deb maintained.
Following our protest, the guest list of the programme was changed but still a Union Minister is a guest in the programme, which insulted the position of the chief Minister and Speaker, Deb added.
