Bhubaneswar: Thanks to the extensive arrangement made by the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) to ensure seamless Durga idol immersion, as many as 60 idols have been immersed so far in five temporary ponds.
According to sources, the BMC has come up with temporary waterbodies set up at different locations for immersion purposes and requested the organizers of various puja pandals in Bhubaneswar to immerse the idols there.
Till the last report came in, 60 Durga idols had been submerged at three ponds at the Kuakhai site, one at Tankapani and one at Daya Bridge which served the purpose of immersion of Durga idols.
As a planned intervention, BMC has five dedicated teams along with members of the Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) to facilitate hassle-free immersion. As machinery support, there are hydra and JCB in each pond site apart from 8 to 15 labourers on a rotation basis at each pond, police personnel, fire officials and team BMC.
Each unit is headed by an engineer for office reporting, technical support and coordination with line departments. DG Set, lighting and road facilities have also been arranged for hassle-free immersion.
“As instructed by the Commissioner, all arrangements have been made and BMC is prepared to serve citizens with regards to immersion”, said the City Engineer.
