Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation has initiated steps to ensure that the Capital city and adjoining areas do not suffer from water logging during the ensuing monsoon rains. As most of the drains in the city are silted obstructing the flow of water and waste, BMC Mayor Sulochana Das on Monday issued directions to complete the ongoing drain construction and de-silting work before the onset of the monsoon.
The BMC officials attended a meeting at their office on Monday to find ways and mean to tackle the water-logging problem in the city during the rainy season. Corporators of 67 wards, officials of the Engineering department, R& B department, and the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) attended the meeting.
At the end of the meeting, Das told the media that she has directed the concerned authorities to construct barricades near open drains in the city and complete the de-silting work of all the main drains within a week. At the same time, she has also issued directions to complete the de-silting work of all the feeder drains by June 25.
All the corporators have been asked to ensure that the under-construction projects in their respective wards are completed before the onset of the monsoon.
