Bhubaneswar: The body of a 19-year-old youth who drowned in Tikhali Dam was recovered on Thursday following a search operation.

The deceased has been identified as Gobinda Majhi (19), a resident of Badabanki village under Turukela police station in Balangir district.

According to reports, Gobinda had gone to Tikhali Dam along with three friends — Prem Majhi, Laki Dharua, and another youth — on two motorcycles on Thursday evening to take a bath near Pendara Bandh Bridge under Komna Police Station in Nuapada district.

While bathing under the bridge, Gobinda suddenly drowned and went missing. His friends searched extensively but failed to trace him. They later informed the Komna Police in the evening. Due to darkness, the fire service team called for the search had to return without success on Thursday night.

On Friday morning, the search operation was again launched, and the body of Gobinda was finally recovered from the dam.

Police have initiated an investigation into the incident and sent the body for post-mortem.
