Bhubaneswar: Tension gripped Capital Hospital on Tuesday after the family of an 11-year-old boy alleged that he died following the administration of an incorrect injection, triggering protests on the premises.
According to officials, police personnel were deployed at the hospital mortuary as family members from Kalupada in Khurda district staged a demonstration, demanding accountability. Hospital authorities had not issued any official clarification on the allegations at the time of reporting.
The boy was brought to the casualty ward around 9:30 am after sustaining injuries from a fall while cycling, his family said. His elder sister claimed that he was conscious upon arrival and was speaking to relatives.
“He even asked for water. The doctor gave him an injection, and after some time we were informed that he had died,” she alleged, blaming the administration of a wrong injection for the death.
Officials said the body has been sent for post-mortem examination. However, the family alleged that they were not allowed to complete necessary formalities before the body was moved, intensifying their protest.
Police said the situation remains under control, and further action will depend on the findings of the post-mortem report and any subsequent inquiry.
