Bhubaneswar: IAS Officer Dhiman Chakma, Sub-Collector of Dharamgarh in Kalahandi district, has been sent to judicial custody for 14 days after being arrested on bribery charges.
Chakma was sent to jail after the Special Vigilance Court in Bhawanipatna rejected his bail plea.
According to reports, Chakma, 36, was caught by the Odisha Vigilance Department on Sunday for allegedly accepting a Rs 10 lakh bribe from a local businessman. A search of his residence uncovered an additional ₹47 lakh in unaccounted cash.
After completing his degree in Computer Science from NIT Agartala, he cleared the UPSC Civil Services Examination. Prior to joining the IAS, he served as an Assistant Conservator of Forests (ACF) in Baripada after clearing the Indian Forest Service (IFS) exam in 2019. He later cleared the IAS exam in 2021 while serving as a forest officer. On January 29, 2024, he took charge as the Sub-Collector of Dharamgarh.
