Bhadrak: Excise officials seized 210 grams of brown sugar, allegedly valued at more than Rs 20 lakh, during surprise raids in the Serapur and Dolasahi Bazar areas of Tihidi block in Bhadrak district, officials said on Friday.
Two persons were arrested in connection with the seizures and were subsequently forwarded to a court, they said.
The raids were conducted by two special teams under the leadership of District Excise Inspector Mamata Das. Following the operation, separate cases were registered at the Bhadrak Range and Tihidi Excise Station.
The operation was carried out on the direction of Excise Superintendent Narottam Mishra and under the supervision of Excise Deputy Superintendent Sucharita Mishra.
Tihidi Excise Officer-in-Charge Sima Kerei, Bhadrak Officer-in-Charge Srikant Murmu, District Mobile SI Natabar Mallik, ASI Kshirod Patra and other excise personnel participated in the raids.
Further investigation into the source and intended distribution of the seized contraband is underway, officials said.
