Nayagada: A private bus travelling from Bhubaneswar to Nayagada hit a tree near Baunsia Pada under Itamati police station limits on Friday, killing the driver and injuring more than 25 passengers, police said.
The driver, identified as Niranjan Swain of Pichukuli village in Khordha district, was crushed to death in the accident.
All the injured passengers were rescued and admitted to the Nayagada District Headquarters Hospital. The condition of five injured persons was stated to be critical.
Fire brigade personnel, police and local residents reached the spot and rescued the passengers from the damaged bus.
The Sub-Collector also visited the hospital and enquired about the health condition of the injured.
