Bhubaneswar: A businessman allegedly jumped into the Brahmani River from the new bridge in Rourkela on Friday morning following a family dispute. He has been missing since then.
The incident occurred around 8 am. After being alerted, police from Brahmani Tarang police station and fire brigade personnel rushed to the spot and started a search operation.
The missing person has been identified as Shivram Sahu, a resident of Uditnagar and a transport businessman by profession.
As per reports, a quarrel had erupted in his family over some issue in the morning. Later, Shivram reportedly called a woman acquaintance from Plantsite area to meet him. After she arrived at his house, both had a discussion for some time. He then took her along in his car towards Vedvyas TCI Square. At TCI Square, he allegedly took some medicines inside the car in front of her. Though the woman tried to prevent him and dissuaded him from taking such a step, he did not pay heed. Subsequently, he drove towards the Brahmani New Bridge with the woman sitting in the rear seat. On reaching the bridge, he abruptly got down from the car and jumped into the river.The woman screamed for help. Some commuters who were passing by the bridge informed the police and fire services.
While police have launched a probe into the matter, fire services personnel are continuing efforts to trace Shivram in the river till the last report came in.
