Cuttack: Forest department officials on Wednesday recovered carcass of an elephant calf from Baramba forest range under Athgarh forest division in Cuttack district.
The elephant calf is suspected to have died about 8-10 days ago. The dead elephant calf was aged about one and a half years. However, the exact cause behind the calf’s death is not known.
“While Forest department staff were patrolling 3 Kms inside the forest near Kaduapada beat under Maniabandh section in Baramba forest range we discovered the carcass of the elephant calf. The calf was aged about one and a half years,” informed Maniabandh Forester Krushna Chandra Swain.
Swain said that veterinarians from Baramba, Gopapur and Maniabandh visited the spot and collected samples from the carcass.
“These samples have been sent to OUAT for pathological examination. The cause of death of the elephant calf will be known after report is available,” Swain added.
