Malkangiri: Chitrakonda MLA Mangu Khilla narrowly escaped a major accident after a large tree fell on his vehicle during a Kalabaisakhi (pre-monsoon thunderstorm) accompanied by heavy rain and strong winds in Malkangiri district on Wednesday.

The incident occurred near Bhallabh House Chowk at Chitrakonda Ghat while the legislator was returning from RSS-3 village, where he had attended a cricket tournament.

According to reports, a massive tree was uprooted by the strong winds and suddenly crashed onto the MLA’s vehicle. The impact left the vehicle severely damaged and reportedly trapped Khilla inside.

Following the incident, local residents and the administration were alerted. People from the nearby Korkel area, along with rescue personnel, rushed to the spot and launched efforts to safely extricate the MLA from the damaged vehicle.

Preliminary reports indicated that Khilla escaped the mishap without suffering any serious injuries. However, the incident triggered concern among local residents and supporters across the region.

Further details regarding the extent of damage to the vehicle and the MLA’s condition were awaited.
