Bhadrak: A Class 9 schoolgirl survived a petrol attack in the Lanjara Chowk area under Fatepur Panchayat in the Dhusuri police station limits of Bhadrak district on Tuesday morning.
According to a complaint lodged by the victim’s family, a 32-year-old man from Dharmagatpur village in Fatepur Panchayat had been pursuing the girl for a long time. The complaint stated that when the student rejected his advances, he intercepted her on her way to school and poured petrol on her in an attempt to set her on fire.
Hearing the girl’s screams, local residents rushed to the spot and overpowered the accused. He was subsequently detained and handed over to the Dhusuri police.
Following the incident, the victim’s family lodged a complaint at the Dhusuri police station. Police have registered a case and initiated an investigation into the matter.
Local residents also stated that the accused had been married twice before. Further investigation is underway.
