Rayagada: A Class X student allegedly died by suicide due to online gaming at Ganapatiguda village under Ramanaguda police station in Rayagada district on Thursday.
The deceased has been identified as Saina Sahoo (15).
According to family sources, Saina was actively involved in an online game despite repeated warnings from her family. She had reportedly won Rs 4 lakh through the game but was unable to withdraw the amount.
“She was addicted to online gaming, frequently winning and losing money. The gaming platform had assured her of Rs 4 lakh but failed to release the winnings. She even threatened the platform with suicide. When we confronted her about it, she admitted to making the threat. Despite our repeated warnings, especially with her board exams approaching, she continued playing without our knowledge,” said Lily Patnaik, the deceased’s aunt.
Saina was later found hanging in the toilet of her house.
Upon being informed, Ramanaguda police and a forensic team arrived at the scene and started investigating. The body was sent to Gunpur Sub-Divisional Hospital for a post-mortem.
