Bhubaneswar: ‘Ekamra Walks’ is hosting a special screening of the iconic Odia film ‘Jajabara’, marking 51 years since its original release in 1975. The colourised version of the classic black-and-white film will be screened at Kalabhoomi Open Air Auditorium on February 8.
Ekamra Walks serves as the flagship cultural initiative under the Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA).
A team of 21 technocrats worked for 736 days to colourise 2,19,000 frames of the original film, making Jajabara the first black-and-white regional film in India to be colourised. The event will feature prominent cast and crew members, including Banaja Mohanty, Tripura Mishra, Geeta Pattnaik, and Bapu Lenka.
‘Jajabara’ occupies a distinctive place in Odia cinema and continues to be regarded as more than just a film—it is a cultural touchstone that has influenced generations of viewers. The screening not only celebrates its enduring legacy but also honours the remarkable restoration effort that has brought the film back to life for contemporary audiences.
The screening is part of Ekamra Walks’ Odia Film Panorama initiative, celebrating the film’s enduring legacy and cultural significance. The event starts with an Odia Literary Trail at 2 PM, featuring Sakhi Kandhei dance and a storytelling session on Kulfi. The film screening is at 5:30 PM.
